Penne with Beef and Bacon Sauce and Garlic Crumble

Ingredients:  (Serves 6 - 7)

500g minced beef
300g minced pork/veal
1 cup of diced bacon
1 onion - chopped
100g diced carrot
100g diced celery
3 cloves garlic - minced
2 x 410g canned peeled tomatoes
2 tbsp dried chilli flakes
4 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 
1/2 cup red wine
1 tbsp sugar
salt
pepper
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

  • Heat oil and saute onions and garlic until tender.  Add in bacon pieces.  Fry for about 2 minutes.
  • Add in minced beef and pork and fry for about 10 minutes.
  • Add chopped canned tomatoes, sugar, salt, pepper, parsley and chilli flakes.  Stir well.  Let it simmer under medium heat for about an hour.  
  • Boil penne following the instructions on the packet.  Drain.
  • Serve penne with the beef and bacon sauce on top and sprinkled with garlic crumble.  Garnish with parmesan cheese. 



Garlic Crumble for topping:

8 cloves garlic - minced finely
6 slices white bread
150g butter
parmesan cheese 

  • In a food processor, process the bread into fine breadcrumbs.
  • Melt butter in a pan and lightly browned garlic.  
  • Add breadcrumbs and fry until golden colour and are crunchy.  Set aside.

  2. Tear fresh white bread into small pieces and put them in the food processor and process until fine. Shall cook for you when you visit. Cheers!
